What is the Ziqiang 3000? What is the Teng-Yun Cabin?
The Ziqiang 3000 (also called the “New Ziqiang”) is Taiwan Railways’ newest intercity train, introduced in recent years.
The train has 12 carriages in total. Carriage 6 is the Teng-Yun Cabin — a premium business-class section with a 2+1 seating layout and only 30 seats available per journey.
Teng-Yun Cabin | How to Book & Collect Your Ticket
- Online booking (TRA website): You’ll be required to enter your Taiwan National ID number, which means the ticket is registered under your name. You must collect the physical ticket at a TRA service counter and present your ID for verification.
- TRA App: You can book tickets and select your meal directly through the official Taiwan Railways app — the most convenient option!
The above covers the methods I’ve personally used. Tickets are also available at TRA service counters, vending machines, and convenience stores — check the official website for full details.
I usually book through the app, but this was my first time using the official website — and I learned the hard way that online bookings require in-person ticket collection at the counter. Make sure to leave yourself extra time before your train departs!
After collecting your ticket, you’ll receive both a train ticket and a meal voucher. Please keep both safe — you’ll need the voucher to redeem your meal on board!

All carriages on the Ziqiang 3000 feature a minimalist black-and-white color scheme — sleek and understated. Personally, I love it!
The 2+1 seating layout means the aisle is exceptionally wide — you could roll a carry-on suitcase through without worrying about bumping anyone!
I was assigned a double seat this time — it’s noticeably more spacious than a standard reserved seat, though my photo doesn’t do it justice!
There are also solo single seats available. I’ve since learned you can choose your seat type when booking — next time I’d definitely go for a solo seat for maximum comfort!
USB charging ports are located under the seat — same as in standard reserved carriages.
Teng-Yun Cabin | Meal Service
A complimentary meal is included with your Teng-Yun Cabin ticket!
It’s recommended to select your meal right after booking — either via the TRA website or app. If you don’t pre-select, you’ll receive whatever meal is available on the day. To choose a specific meal or drink, you must complete your selection by 5:00 PM the day before your journey. Note that meal selection is no longer possible after you’ve collected your physical ticket.
If your train falls during lunch or dinner hours, you can choose the iconic Taiwan Railways Bento Box. Check the official timetable to see which departures qualify.
My trip happened to fall during lunch hours, so I got a Taiwan Railways bento box and a Starbucks drink. The red pineapple cake in the photo is from SunnyHills — I borrowed it from the passenger next to me just for the photo! 😄
Teng-Yun Cabin | Is It Worth It? My Honest Verdict
Honestly? The Teng-Yun Cabin does offer a quieter carriage, wider seats, and an included meal — but the overall experience doesn’t feel dramatically different from a standard reserved seat. Factor in TRA’s price increase from June 23, 2025, and I’d probably only ride it this once.
That said, if you want to treat yourself or try something different on your Taiwan trip, the Teng-Yun Cabin is absolutely worth experiencing at least once — it’s a fun and comfortable way to travel!
